If you're serious about building a community of readers, you should post frequently, at least three times a week. Users will bookmark your blog and return to it regularly if they find new quality content every time they visit.
Having a business blog will add  new content to your site frequently and affect your site's search engine rankings positively.
Your business blog will be searched by search engine. Each individual blog entry exists as a separate page that can also be picked up by the search engines.
It'll cost you zero money and very little time to ad your blog to blog directories around the Web.
